Your character

Quests

Write your own quests - a task for yourself, an errand for a friend, a hunt for your faction - with a story, objectives on the map and a banner of your own. They go into the game's own journal, with its markers on the compass and the map.

  1. Open the quests

F2 > Quests, or /quests. Three tabs: My quests (yours and those given to you, the offers waiting on top), Written by me, and Create.

  2. Write one

Give it a title, a one-line summary and the story. Choose its kind - Main, Side or Task, the journal's three lists. Add 1 to 8 objectives: a plain line, a place (where you stand, or the waypoint you put on your map with M), or the placed NPC beside you. Pick a deadline if it has one, and its banner: a field among 12, an emblem and a trim colour. The card and its journal page are drawn beside the form as you type.

  3. Track it

Seal it with "Put it in my journal at once", or press Track it myself on a quest you wrote. Tick its objectives in the window (or with /quest tick <id> <n>), then Complete it - or Abandon it.

  4. Share it

Share offers it to a player beside you (within 10 metres), to a character by name - online or not, it waits for them - or to your whole faction. They Accept or Decline it in My quests; accepted, it goes into their journal.

⚑

Places and NPCs

An objective with a place puts the game's lettered marker on the compass and the map. Tick "Ticked on arrival" and it ticks by itself when the player comes within 8 metres. An objective "Talk to" a placed NPC ticks when they talk to it.

✓

You confirm

With "I confirm when it is done", a quest you gave waits for you once its holder has ticked everything: Confirm it, or Reopen it (its objectives to do again). Written by me shows who holds each of your quests and how far they are.

↻

Passed on

With "Those who receive it may pass it on", anyone who holds your quest can share it further from their own log.

✦

Rewards

The reward is words only - what you promise in character. No coin or item changes hands through a quest: pay what you promised yourself.

NPCs that give quests

The staff can give any quest to a placed NPC: talk to that NPC and its quests are offered to you in the quests window.

Town Task Managers

Every town has a Town Task Manager beside its town clerk. Talk to him (E) to open his task board: the quests the players have pinned there for anyone to take.

  1. Take a task

The Board tab shows the town's notices. Open one to read its objectives, story, reward, who posted it and when it comes down, then press Take this task: the quest goes straight into your journal. Switch on All towns to see the tasks pinned elsewhere, with their town and distance.

  2. Pin one of yours

In My listing, choose one of the quests you wrote, how long it stays pinned (6 hours to 3 days) and how many players may take it (no limit by default, or 1 to 10). The price shows as you choose. Quests you cannot pin are greyed with the reason: already pinned, past their deadline, or a staff quest.

  3. No quest yet?

Press Write a new quest: the Quests window opens on its Create tab. Back at the Task Manager, your new quest is ready to pin - and while you stand beside him, the Quests window offers List it on the board on your quests.

  4. Keep an eye on it

My listing shows when it comes down and how many took it. Extend it (you pay only the difference) or Withdraw it (nothing is refunded). Who took it and how far they are: Quests > Written by me.

The fee is paid from your purse, then from your moneylender account. It goes to the town's treasury when the town's court sits; otherwise it is simply spent. You can have 1 task on the boards at a time.
