Factions and power
Influence and renown
Every faction has an influence in every town, and every character a renown. Both grow with what you do, both fade with time - the realm remembers the present.
Influence: who weighs in a town
| What your faction's people do in a town | Influence |
|---|---|
| A task of a trade (a load gathered, a parcel carried, a round walked, a fare driven) | +1 to +4 |
| Goods sold at its market | +1 for every 25 groschen, up to 10 |
| A work order done | +4 |
| Upkeep paid there | +1 for every 25 groschen |
| Goods given to the town works | +0.35 a load, +10 for the load that finishes them |
| A convoy delivered to its market | +3 a crate (+1.5 for each escort) |
| A contract fulfilled there | +4 |
| Brigands put down near it | +6 each hunter |
| A wanted man handed over, a verdict given (the Watch) | +8 / +6 |
| A tournament won there | +15 |
| A theft / an assault or a killing seen by the townsfolk | -2 / -4 |
| Convicted by the court | -5 |
Influence fades by about a twentieth every day, so a town is held by being there. The live map colours each town deeper where more influence is at play, and a bar beneath it shows who weighs how much. F2 > The realm (or /realm) shows every town's standing.
What influence does
| Challenging a town | A challenger needs at least as much influence in the town as its holder (a siege aside). |
| Losing a town | A holder under 15 influence in its town, with a rival above 40, loses the town: it is free to claim. |
| The larger toll | The holder that also leads the town's influence takes 8% of its sales instead of 5%. |
| The house of the week | Every Monday the faction with the most influence across the land is proclaimed; the live map and the account site keep the record. |
Renown: what the land says of you
Your renown grows with your deeds - work, trade, contracts, convoys, town works, brigands, tournaments, masterpieces, treasure - and fades by about a hundredth a day. It gives you a name, which others read when they look you over (/examine):
| Renown | People speak of you as |
|---|---|
| 0 | an unknown face |
| 40 | known in the parish |
| 120 | a respected name |
| 300 | a person of note |
| 600 | renowned in the land |
| 1100 | famed across Bohemia |
