Life in the realm
Names you learn
Nobody knows your name until you tell them. Over a stranger's head you read only
Unknown (id)
- the number the server gives them - until they introduce themselves, or you give them a name of your own.
| How | What it does |
|---|---|
/meet id | Tell your name to that player. They must be within 20 m - as close as a voice would carry. From then on your name shows over your head on their screen. |
/meet id name | Give that player a name of your own: the name they told you, a nickname, "the smith with the scar". It shows over their head on your screen alone. |
| F2 > People around me > the person | Introduce yourself (your name to them, within 20 m) or Name them (the name you know them by). The same two lines are in the menu of the person you face in focus mode (Left Alt). |
| F2 > People around me | Introduce yourself to everyone around: your name to everyone within 20 m at once - a tavern table, a camp, a council. |
What you see
- A name you learn is kept for good, for that character, and it is yours alone: what you call someone shows on your screen, never on anyone else's. Give a name again and the new one takes its place.
- The names over heads show while you hold Caps Lock, or for 5 seconds after a quick tap of it. To see them all the time, turn on Always show names in the settings (the action wheel Z > Settings, or /settings: Interface).
- The players' list (Tab) shows the names you know, and Unknown Character for the rest. F2 > People around me lists people the same way.
- The staff on duty show their duty label to everyone - and within 40 m of one of them, the names over heads stay up without holding Caps Lock, so you always know a staff member is near.
