The law
The Right of the Sword
A Lord may swear one faction in as the Constables of his lordship: the law in its towns, under his banner. The City Guard keeps the realm; the Constables keep the lordship.
- The Lord asks
From his court window - the Lordship tab, The Right of the Sword - (or
/oath swear faction-id) the Lord picks one faction of players: his own, or any other but the City Guard and the City Council. - The faction answers
Its leader - the master, or a rank that edits the ranks - is told at once (by letter if away), and takes the oath or refuses it in F2 > My faction > Overview, or with
/oath accept//oath refuse. Unanswered, the offer lapses after 48 hours. - Sworn
The faction becomes the Constables of the Lordship of X: the realm hears of it, the faction's page wears the badge "Sworn to the Lordship of X", and the town's register writes it down.
| In the lordship's towns, the Constables may | |
|---|---|
| Bind, release and escort | anyone, at once - /restrain, /release, /escort. |
| Fine | up to 500 groschen, into their own coffers. |
| The pillory | up to 60 minutes. |
| Try | at the lordship's town halls and pillories: acquit, fine, pillory or cane. Never the brand: it stays the City Guard's alone. |
| Post wanted notices | wanted in the Lordship of X: heard only by its Constables and its court, the bounty paid from their coffers, the wanted one handed over at a pillory of the lordship. |
| Hear the crimes | the townsfolk's cries, a lock picked, a poacher seen in the lordship's towns; and the notice for a murder, a convoy robbed or a poaching done there goes to them (to the City Guard where a lordship has no Constables). |
| Bind the banished on sight | one banished by a town court of the lordship who rides back in is shown to them and marked, to be bound. |
Each power is a right of the faction's own ranks: the watch's powers, judging, posting bounties - set in the Ranks tab, as for a faction of the law. The oath runs in the lordship's towns only (a dissident village is none of the Lord's, nor of his Constables'): step outside them and the Constables are townsfolk like any other.
| The rules of the oath | |
|---|---|
| One and one | One faction to a lordship, one lordship to a faction. |
| Revoked | The Lord may revoke the oath at any time; he then swears in no other faction for 24 hours. The faction's leader may lay it down too (/oath renounce). |
| Ended by itself | when the Lord loses the lordship, or the faction is dissolved. |
| The staff | see every oath (/oaths) and may end one (/revokeoath, or the faction's page on the account site). |
